82nd Venice International Film Festival 2025, out of competition

When it was announced that this film had been selected for the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, it was both an honour and a shock to me.
It all started about one year and a half before the premiere. Francesco asked me if I’d like to edit the film (he was still shooting), and of course I said yes: Piero has made music history with the band Litfiba and as a solo artist
…he is the ultimate Italian rock frontman, and has been since I was just a kid.
After cutting a “demo” teaser for the producers involved during the summer of 2024, the beginning of editing was postponed by four months, due to a tour being cancelled because of Piero’s hearing conditions. We finally begun shaping the film in February 2025, and it turned out to be a free-form, almost psychedelic work, with the addition of some intimate moments: a road movie as well as a cause for reflection on over forty years of life “off the road”, as an intellectually free, libertarian, courageous figure on the Italian artistic scene.
Working with music and musicians is always a joy for me, and to assemble the soundtrack (by using stems from Piero’s last album) and help shaping the sound design for this film was an exciting challenge: I’m as happy with the sound of it as I am with the visual part.
